Pomegranates are the "national fruit" of Iran! Iran is the second largest producer and largest exporter of pomegranates in the world. Pomegranate fruit's juice and paste have a role in Iranian cuisine, e.g. Fesenjoon, Persian deserts/snacks and juice bars. Historically, pomegranates' skin were used to stain wool and silk used in making of Persian rugs. This fruit has been regarded as symbol of love, health, wealth and prosperity in ancient Persia.
The Pomegranate Festival is an annual cultural and artistic festival held during October in Tehran and several other cities in Iran to exhibit and sell pomegranates, food products, and handicrafts.
