Kataifi is shredded phyllo dough popular in baking Middle Eastern desserts such as Kunafeh, Baghlava and Kadayif. This Kataifi is dried, so it's shelf stable and doesn't need to be thawed from frozen to use. Dried Kataifi should be roasted before using or baked into a dessert.
Kadayif uses Kataifi the wrapping around a nut based filling, while Kunafeh uses Kataifi as the outside layer of a cheese filled dessert. Both can be flavored with spices such as cinnamon and honey or herbal waters such as Rose Water or Orange Blossom Water.
Now, Kataifi has gone viral as part of the Dubai Chocolate Bar craze on TikTok. To use dried Kataifi in Dubai Chocolate, it needs to be roasted in butter until golden brown. Then add Pistachio Cream and Tahini to roasted Kataifi and use that mixture to fill your chocolate bar mold!
