Zoghal Akhteh is an extremely rare type of cherry grown only in small part of Iran. The trees for this fruit are grown in wild and resemble European Dogwood trees. This tree specifically grows in village of Hir (in the mountain of Alamoot) which is about 60KM from Ghazvin and west of Tehran/Iran. The Carnelian Cherries in USA have a completely different texture and taste from what is know as Zoghal Akhteh in Iran. It is believed that the soil and the climate of Iran causes this unique tree to produce the type of fruit that is so unique to just Iran. Cornelian Cherry is also found growing as a wild tree in some parts of Germany.
